Hi there. I know this is normally the part where you expect Tim to share some of his thoughts from the past week and drop some knowledge bombs, BUT instead you get me now. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Laura Rickheim, I have the official job title of Chief Plate Spinner – this is now one of my plates to spin!
The whole team works together to compile all the awesomeness you read here every week (and the pictures still belong to Tim), I just get to put it all together and hit the send button. I’ll try not to let all the power go to my head…but no promises.
Stuff we wrote this past week:
On Wednesday, we talked Professional Development on Funny Business: The 18-Minute Podcast about Management, Marketing, and Meatloaf. Well, that, Hogwarts, and pantaloons – the important things in life.
On Friday, another edition of Practically Social featured 9 reasons why you should be nice to people and a particularly awesome video about a group of students showing appreciation for their school janitor.
You know that feeling when you get back from vacation and you think you should be refreshed and ready to be ridiculously productive, but in reality you can barely drag yourself out of bed and you forget to shave for 6 days? Like a vacation hangover. This was one of those weeks. It is also the reason why you are only seeing two things we wrote/recorded this past week. So below you will find extra stuff we liked and next week will be a full week on the blog.
Stuff we liked this week:
First, did you get a good night’s sleep last night? Good, because you may never sleep again after reading about how spiders could theoretically eat every human on Earth in a year.
Second, Do you know what the highest-grossing movie of all time is? Spoiler…it’s not Star Wars. This list of the top 10 highest-grossing movies of all time when adjusted for inflation is probably not what you expect.
Third, a town in the Netherlands got sick of pedestrians getting hit by cars because they were looking down at their phones. The solution? They put the traffic lights on the ground. You gotta meet them where they’re at, right?
Fourth, pinball may have been down, but it’s not out. In fact, it just may be making a comeback and Stern’s Pinball is ready to show off their craft.
Sixth, Richard Branson shared his thoughts about Alaskan Airlines retiring the Virgin America brand in a farewell letter. And he does it right. So right.
Seventh, we talked about professional development in our most recent podcast. Did that light a fire under your butt? Good, because here are 250 Ivy League courses you can take online for free.
Eighth, our dear friends are kind of a big deal. Yes, they’re this humble and kind in real life. Yes, it’s kind of annoying.
