After a short break last week, The Weekly Reader is back and I feel like there is so much that happened! First and foremost, Tim had a birthday last Saturday and if you haven’t wished him a happy birthday yet, you should. On top of that, the book that has been a work in process for the better part of four years, Brand Your Own Business, was released on October 24th.
This is a big deal, guys.
All bias aside, this book is awesome and we had some really smart people help us put it together (thank you, all you smart people). I am so proud to have been able to help with this project!
Last week was also our company’s annual meeting. For those of you who don’t know, our team is completely virtual. We are spread across the country and once per year we get everyone together in person to do some big picture planning and some trust falls. On Thursday we spent the day talking about where we want to go as a company and how we can better serve our clients. Friday was professional development day. We attended Dave Ramsey’s One-Day Entreleadership conference. It was extremely powerful and our whole team would encourage you to get out and do something similar. It is a wonderful break from the day-to-day to help you get a better perspective on what is truly important. (You can hear more about our experience in the next podcast where Dee and I make our debut). Overall, the entire meeting was productive, helpful, and a great experience. I am so glad to work with such cool people, and Ryan.
Stuff we wrote this past past week:
On Tuesday, October 24th, ya’ll it happened! Tim’s new book Brand Your Own Business both the guidebook and the full-length workbook were released. I can’t even contain my excitement enough to put my thoughts together – but it’s going to help a lot of people. Check it out if you haven’t already!
On Wednesday, October 25th, we couldn’t just not talk about the fact that we released a new book. So in this week’s episode of The Funny Business Podcast, Tim and Ryan talk about BYOB and share some tips on how to write your own book. Oh, and Rylie Patrick had some words for her dad and Tim.
On Thursday, October 26th, bullies suck. Finding out that your child has been bullied is painful and Tim experienced this. However, he made the choice to handle it with grace, compassion, and hope. I think he made the right choice.
Stuff we liked this week:
First, online advertising, in its current form, is broken. Here are 10 reasons why it needs to change.
Second, the lovely and talented Ryan Patrick has an even lovelier and talented-er cousin named Carrie Waller. She is an amazing watercolor artist and in this podcast she talks about how she maintained a creative life and the things that inspire her.
Third, a Japanese company, on the suggestion of one of their employees, decided to give non-smokers extra holiday days each year to compensate for the extra time smoke breaks take up for those who do smoke. As an added bonus, so far – at least four people have quit smoking.
Fourth, some say you gotta risk it for the biscuit. That is exactly what “Mattress Mac” did when he offered to rebate his customers if the Astros won the World Series…which they did.
Fifth, RIP Isaac :'(
How can we help you?
Well, so that’s a start to our weekend and yours as well. During the week, we’re primarily going to write about the five major levels of The First Order of Business that is covered in our new book, Brand Your Own Business, and we’ll share our best tips on management, marketing, and motivation.
In addition, we take requests. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if there’s a topic you’d like us to tackle.
Thanks for your time! Enjoy your weekend!
