Every Goliath has a stone.
Tim saw that spelled out on a church sign somewhere in rural America. He recounted it to me when I was telling him a story about something that is happening in my town.
In my town, there is one really big guy. And one smaller guy in the same line of work. The big guy has all the luck. He has all the certificates and all the big name recognition. And truly, he is good at what he does. But here’s what drives me crazy: the little guy is hiding. He is not telling the community about why he might be better than the big guy.
I can think of at least 10 advantages of this smaller company and they are not talking about any of them in our community. Because the big guy is a Goliath of sorts.
Is there someone in your town, in your line of work who is just huge? Has he cornered the market? Is he eatin’ your lunch? Is he kicking backside and taking names?
Hey, little guy, take heart because every Goliath has a stone. Polish yours up. Take aim. Knock him down. Don’t hide from your Goliath. Because there is something you do better than the big guy. There is something you do that he can’t do because he’s just too darn big. That’s how you get your share of the market. That’s your positioning wedge, your smooth stone. Tune in tomorrow and learn what to do with it.
