(Welcome to Day 1 of Miles & Company’s Completely-Shamless, Semi-Shameless Subscriber Drive. For the next six days, our email subscribers can share our stuff and win big ole’ buckets of crazy swag prize packs that include tools for doodling, learning to write gooder, and caffeinating themselves to creative oblivion. All the rules are here. Only our email subscribers are eligible to win… because they’re all unfairly awesome… if that describes you too, why not sign up for our short emails, too?)
In the methodology we created called The First Order Of Business, everything’s built on the goals and values of your company.
GOALS
What is it, specifically, you’re trying to make happen? Can you tell me with such brevity and clarity that my 5-year-old (admittedly brilliant) daughter can understand? If you have more than one goal, have you prioritized them? What if two of your goals come into conflict? Which one has priority? Does your team know these things? If I asked them the same questions, would their answers mirror yours? They’d better.
VALUES
What does your company stand for? What does your company stand against? What are the non-negotiable standards and values by which you make decisions? Does your team know these things? If I asked them the same questions, would their answers mirror yours? They’d better.
Because in this age of rapid distraction, it’s going to take a focused team working together with shared values carrying them toward that celebration of your success.
THE MCo BEST OF GOALS & VALUES
Since we have so many new readers this week, we’d like to point you to our very best stories about goals and values. DON’T PANIC! Like all of our stories, these are short, practical pieces of advice that typically take no more than 2-5 minutes to read… but you may think about them all day.
Big X. Little X. – Start here… at the very beginning… we think you’ll find it’s a very good place to start. It’s an exercise that can be done on any pancake house napkin.
Ten Questions You Must Ask Your Employees – Successful football teams are all running the same play. You must, must, must be on the same page with your employees.
The Three Word Challenge – In our over-communicated society, can you simplify down to the essence of you, your company, your significant other?
Shouldn’t Our Values Be Private – That’s a fair question… here’s a fair answer… no.
What Is A Brand? – Ask 100 people. Get 100 different answers. Given we’ve been successfully building brands for a couple decades, we feel reasonably qualified to answer this question. Here, we do.
Building Your Brand Diamond – Once you know what a brand actually is, how can you consciously polish yours and help it sparkle?
A Value-able Contest For Your Company – As always, none of this matter unless your whole team is on board… here’s a fun way to help with that.
7 Days To Identifying Goals and Values – If you’re up for some change aches and growing pains, here’s the plan to uncover the strong foundation of your company. If you’re not up for it, well… I’m not even sure we can be friends.
(Over the next six days during our subscriber drive and contest, we’ll be sharing our very best advice with you. We’ve used these strategies to help unleash awesomeness in hundreds of companies and thousands of people… but BE WARNED… this is the diet-and-exercise of business growth, marketing strategy, and personal branding and development. You have to be willing to do the work. If you are willing, amazing things can happen. If you aren’t already a subscriber, why not try us for a few days?)
