You’ve got the three words that best describe your company.
You’ve carefully chosen your skewed opposite.
You understand how important shared values are in today’s marketplace.
Now, are you ready to take your company to the next, next, next level?
Have a company contest. This is not a sales contest. This is for every employee in your company.
Because you share everything with your employees, they know your goals and values, so get everyone together and say:
“Each quarter for the next year, starting April 1, we’re going to take 2%-5% of our quarterly marketing budget and put it in a pot.
As you’re going through your workdays, we want you to be mindful of the entire customer experience and of our four company values that make up our brand diamond.
Think of ways we could better demonstrate or implement our values through revised or new or eliminated systems, policies, or procedures.
If you submit a serious idea – and a plan to implement it – you get one point.
If we implement it, you get ten points.
We’re going to put a scoreboard in a common area, and you’re each going to say what you’d do with the money. We’re going to name the lobsters.
Then, at the end of each quarter, we’ll total up the number of points and divide our money pot by that number. That gives us our bonus dollars per point. Then, award each person by their earned number of points.
For example, our company’s four values are:
- Wisdom
- Clarity
- Helpful
- Playful
So, we would try and figure out – as we map our customer experience – where could we be wiser… or more clear… or more helpful… or more playful?
What systems, policies, and procedures should we implement to show our clients this beneficial increase in clarity or wisdom or helpfulness or playfulness?
I promise you… PROMISE YOU… this will be the best share of your marketing budget you spend the rest of this year. Unless, of course, you also do this…
