(On April 1, we started a little Facebook group for this. Come join us!)
What if you could be happier… all the time? Wouldn’t that be kinda awesome? What if the office grump was happier… all the time? Wouldn’t that be even kinda awesomer?
At the risk of sounding like an ESPN 30-for-30 special… what if I told you happiness was like a muscle? What if I told you it could be isolated and strengthened and honed to greatness like the hamstrings of a world-class sprinter?
According to an amazing, slightly odd, very funny 12-minute TEDx talk by Shawn Achor, it can be done… if you’re willing to put in just 21 days of training – doing simple exercises to rewire your brain to default to happy.
How is this not worth trying??
First, dap where it’s due… here’s Achor’s short video.
Now, I went through the exercises he suggests in the last minute of his video. Here’s our list, yo… here’s our action plan.
For 21 days in a row:
1. Write down three things you’re grateful for… three new things each day.
2. Journal about one positive experience you’ve had in the past 24 hours. Schedule a time each day – maybe early morning or late evening – where you can write it down and allow your brain to relive it.
3. Every morning, when you open your email, make your first act writing one positive email praising or thanking somebody in your social support network.

This. Is. Not. Hard.
It’s so easy, in fact, that if we don’t at least try it… what does that say about us?
We can do this, friends. Who’s in? Who’s committing?
Have a happy weekend!
