A little over six months ago I was a pack-and-a-half per day mess. Overwhelmed. Disorganized. Frustrating both myself and others.
I just committed to finishing my first half-marathon. I may have to start it tomorrow, but I will finish it.
How do you get from one place to another so different?
You just start walking.
And you don’t stop.
There’s no magic bullet. Or running shoe. Or beans.
But, along the way, there are these other rewards making themselves evident.
You find more reasons to say “yes” than “no.” You take phone calls. And spend more time with your kid. You become fascinated again.
You meet interesting characters. And you do more stuff. Interesting, funner stuff.
Today, I got to do stuff with people from Austin, Columbia, Carbondale, Winnipeg, Stratford, Provo, Nashville, Jefferson City, Osage Beach, and Tuscaloosa. In one day. From my back deck in a sweatshirt, shorts, no shoes, and my weathered Cedar Creek Therapeutic Riding Center ballcap. I got up this morning and just started walking.
I’m not certain yet, but I think this commitment stuff and the resulting benefits have something to do with business. What do you think?
It’s a trip, ain’t it? Gotta go. My wife, the boy, and I are going outside for a walk.
