Today is a good day.
Today, we pack up the cards, letters, gifts, baseballs, stuffed animals, and balloons.
Today, we gleefully leave behind the cafeteria food, 8-inch TV, and fold-out hospital chair/bed/torture device.
Today, we bid a fond farewell to the doctors, nurses, PCA’s, neurologists, and therapists who have become our second family.
Thirty-six days ago, my son had brain surgery.
Today, he’s going home.
The challenges remain. A long road of therapy lies ahead.
Charlie still can’t walk on his own. But he will learn…at home.
His left arm has very little tone. But it will grow stronger…at home.
His delayed vocabulary is expanding. And his words will flourish…at home.
The seizures, the falls, the disease that tried to rob us of our son…we’re leaving it all behind.
Today, Charlie’s going home.
