When Adam Silver honored Isaiah Austin at last week’s NBA draft, he gained a new fan in me.
Isaiah Austin lost his dream in one afternoon at the doctor’s office with a diagnosis that ended his basketball career. Lifting up those who have lost a dream wins friends and customers. Yes, and it’s the right thing to do. Silver and his team at the NBA recognized this and chose to be generous with the spotlight at the NBA draft. It cost them very little, but for this young man, his family, and the Baylor team and fans, it meant the world.
At Miles & Company, when we say yes to an opportunity to sponsor or support, it’s because somewhere, somehow, someone has lost a dream. And with our small gift, we can be a part of lifting them up.
As we head into this holiday week, we encourage you to be generous in your business practice. Join with us and the many good companies we serve in supporting the underdog, investing in a cause, and honoring loss with dignity.
The dream is bigger than just one person. We’re all a part of what matters.
