Wasn’t Tim’s post from yesterday great?
I played golf last year with the former production manager of a famous East Coast entertainment venue. John, I think, was his name, and he told me a story I thought you’d enjoy.
During the round, I asked John, “Who is the nicest person in all of show business that you have dealt with?”
John answered, “Bette Midler is right up there. When catering comes in, she sits and eats right with the crew. Billy Joel is terrific, but hands down, the one everyone agrees is the nicest is Garth Brooks.”
One day John was in his office chatting with a friend when a guy wandered by the office door. He stuck his head in and greeted the two guys. They struck up a conversation which stretched into about a half hour. After the guy had wandered off, the John’s friend said to him, “you have no idea who that is, do you?”
He replied no he didn’t.
“That’s Garth Brooks.”
No ego, no hype. No agenda. Just a regular guy going around talking to everybody.
About an hour later, when John went to the admin office there was Garth talking to one of the payroll clerks. He made it his job to get to know the people who behind the scenes helped make him better.
And that’s why he is the best. Very jealous of Tim and Ry getting to see him.
Cheers,
Steve
