I’m taking a day off on Friday.
Truth be told, I have no choice.
It’s company policy.
Friday is my birthday. It’s a big one, too. Rhymes with “Morty.”
I don’t know what all I’ll do on my day off. But I know one thing I WON’T be doing: Work.
Because, here at Miles & Co, you are required to take a day off on your birthday.
It’s mandatory. No ifs, ands, or buts.
Do I have work to do? Yes.
Does it feel strange to take a day off knowing I have work to do? Sure does.
Am I going to take the day off anyway? You betcha.
Around these parts, working on your birthday is a fireable offense. Along with working on weekends and bothering Tim during Masters Week.
But, whoa nelly, is it nice to know I don’t have to work on my birthday. Because working on your birthday sucks like a Hoover.
Y’know who else thinks that? Your employees.
Y’know who can do something about it? You.
Why not institute a new company policy that, effective immediately, every staff member gets a paid holiday on their birthday?
No, they don’t have to burn personal days.
Yes, the work will still get done.
No, productivity won’t suffer.
Yes, soon everyone will want to work for the awesome company that gives birthdays off.
Oh, and you’ll get a day off on your big day, too. It’s only fair.
So, this year, skip cake and punch in the conference room and give your employees their own special day.
Because, hooboy, do they need it.
Especially the ones turning Morty.
