Do you have an interesting lesson to share? A story from which you think others will benefit?
On Fridays, I’d like to start sharing posts from… how do I put this…
Well, you’ve heard of Doctors Without Borders, right?
I’m looking for Writers Without Agendas.
If you’re willing and able to communicate a difficult concept clearly or shine a light on something shareworthy, I’d love to hear from you, share your story with our audience, and give you credit for your words and work.
But please don’t try and sell them something other than your insights… okay? Don’t be That Guy.
In exchange, you’ll get the joy of knowing you’re helping good people try to do the right thing every day. Our audience spans the globe but is centered primarily in the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia (though we’re becoming very big in Latvia for reasons passing all understanding).
What to submit:
I’m looking primarily for focused columns under 1000 words on management or leadership, marketing or advertising, motivation or employee engagement, productivity or positivity.
Think small: small moments, stories, or slices-of-life illustrating larger principles.
Be helpful: Always ask, “How and why does this affect Tim’s readers?”
Be wise: Do your research. If you have examples or sources, link to them. Cite your statistics and studies.
Be generous: Don’t hold back. Share your best stuff as we do our best to do here. Give generously.
Be clear: Clarity trumps clever. It’s actually harder to write a 429 word post with power than a 1429 word post. I want the clear 429 word post.
Be playful: Don’t take yourself too seriously. Write with passion and persuasion and precision, but also remember this is something you can do without wearing pants. There aren’t too many serious things you can do without wearing pants. Have you ever thought about that? I mean, name ten…
Oh, and I reserve the right to edit your work or reject your work, but if I do so, you will always know why. I will take the time to personally respond to every submission.
If we publish your work, we’ll let you know when, and we’ll need to get a bio, headshot, and backlink to your own work for our site and our emails.
Please don’t pitch me ideas. I’m afraid I just don’t have the time to help you workshop your ideas.
Please don’t try to use us to sell things other than your own blog or content. Give generously and our readers will accept gratefully. When that’s done, as Maya Angelou says, everyone is blessed.
Take a risk. Be brave. Step out onto the skinny end of the branch and share a story that’s relevant, credible, and actionable.
Help us learn. Shine a light on a good deed in a weary world to family businesses and nonprofits everywhere.
To submit:
Send a Word, Pages, or Markdown (does anyone else love Markdown?) text document to tim@timmilesco.com. Make sure to include the proper links to any statistics, studies, research, or ridiculousness.
Thanks for your time. I’d like to start publishing next Friday, but we’re in no rush. We’ll be patiently waiting for your awesomeness.
I really do look forward to hearing from you. Have a wonderful weekend. Thank you!
Oh, and PS – If you need some inspiration, here are ten great quotes about writing – each can be enlarged to make great desktop wallpaper. Enjoy!
