I married up.
This is not some feeble public attempt at flattery, but rather an objective point of fact.
Ask anyone who knows us both.
When Gina told me Dee was interested in dating me, I said:
“Girls like that don’t date guys like me.”
But – for reasons passing understanding – she did.
Sometimes nerds win.
She wore a little black dress on our first date that I’ll never forget.
She’s independent, tough, hard-working, responsible, hot and patient.
She’s a great mother, wife and story-teller.
She’s my partner in every way, and I would most likely be destitute and quite possibly homeless without her.
This is not some feeble public attempt at flattery, but rather an objective point of fact.
Ask anyone who knows us both.
I have a hard time writing nice birthday cards to her anymore because I based more than 100 jewelry ads on how I feel about her.
So, I don’t write to her much anymore. So I’m writing to you, because I want you to know how great she is, too.
She’s shy. She’s – interestingly – a shy extravert.
If you don’t know my wife, I’m sorry. You’d be lucky to know her.
I love her very much. I love her for the way she’s helped our son, and the way she patiently tends to our drama-queen baby girl, and the way she patiently tends to her drama-queen baby husband.
(I asked the cat for a comment, but she looked at me indifferently.)
Today’s her birthday, and she’s celebrating a rare and richly deserved day of pampering and yard sales.
Happy Birthday, Dee. Thank you.
We’d be lost without you.

Happy Birthday Dee!

Happy Birthday Dee!
(And for those of you who missed it, thanks, Tim, for the great ad-writing advice – write to one specific person.)

Happy Birthday Dee!
Tim, I understand you and this post VERY well. I had the same good fortune. In reading about Dee, I thought maybe you were describing my own wife Natalie. SHE would think I was a bit crazy using a venue like my blog to tell her happy birthday, but if your post can touch others like me, and allow us all to wish her a blessed day as well, I think that’s GREAT! All the best to your beautiful wife on her special day!

Beautifully said, my friend! I’d love to meet this woman someday. Sounds like someone I would like to talk to and hang with. What a great way to express it.

Happy Birthday Deidre! In the words of How I Met Your Mother, I believe you’re trying to say that you were the “reacher” and Dee was the “settler.”

Words of honor, humility and thankfulness. Very cool.

Speaking for those that do know you both, yes.

My wife has informed me that ALL men marry up! 😉
I applaud all the sentiments in this article, hope she has a happy one.

Thanks for this one Scott and happy Birthday Dee!
All of us who can’t believe how lucky we got know exactly how you feel. I believe my wife is one of those “shy extroverts” too…comes off as very shy, but jumps in and talks to perfect strangers much sooner than I do!
I can only pass on my mom’s advice to me when she met my wife: “You’ve got a good thing there…don’t screw it up.””
