Let me give you a hypothetical choice:
You can make a ton of money, but you can hurt and lose a friend in the process.
The way I look at it, there are three possible options:
- You take the money, don’t tell your friend and hope your friend doesn’t ever find out.
- You take the money, tell your friend and say “it’s business, not personal.”
- You don’t take the money.
What do you do?
Think about it now … we’re talking maybe six figures over the next 3-5 years.
What do you do?
This week, Dee and I chose #3. There was nothing hypothetical about it.
Sometimes, doing the right thing hurts a little bit. Don’t you think?
That’s what Dee and I teach our kids. But, hey, it’s easy to talk the talk.
What about when there’s six figures worth of skin in the game?
Nope. Still an easy decision. Still the right decision.
We lost the money, but had we chosen #1 or #2, we would have lost so much more.
Opportunity costs.
Some prices are too steep.

Yikes Tim – will look forward to the fine print about today’s post. Can’t imagine how many knee to knee conversations you and your personal coach Deidre had over this experience.

One conversation, Nancy. Only took a couple minutes. I’m not sharing any of the fine print. : )

The right decision is almost never easy. You could have tried to justify one of the other decisions but by not taking the money I think you’ve taught your children an invaluable lesson…and it speaks volumes to the type of people you and your wife are. Congrats 🙂
