“Passion breeds care,” wrote national treasure Tom Asacker in his book, Sandbox Wisdom. I haven’t read the book since 2001. I remember the line like it was yesterday.
Speaking of yesterday, Ryan Patrick warned businesses about dispassionate laziness and its virulent consequences.
I saw quite a different sign last week while I was drying off my car at the car wash. This one wasn’t on a pole. This one was on four wheels.
When I first spied the Robinson’s Cleaners van finishing up at the car wash, I was reminded of their current radio ad campaign offering free residential pickup and delivery service for laundry and dry cleaning.
Then, as I toweled off my car, I watched the driver meticulously clean and vacuum his van. He wasn’t simply going through the motions. This mattered to him. He cared deeply about the appearance of this van.
And that sign – that signal – was kinda awesome.
And it makes me think that if the van driver goes to this much effort to keep his van clean, Robinson’s must feel the same way about my clothes.
And thanks to the radio campaign I’ve been hearing for weeks, I’ve decided to swtich dry cleaners. I’ve been using the same company for years, but I have no strong feelings about them one way or the other. They’ve been fine, but they don’t do pickup and delivery – much less FREE pickup and delivery.
But even after hearing that campaign for weeks, I wasn’t ready to make the switch, until the van driver gave me a sign.
Passion breeds care.
Care breeds new customers.
