We’re days away from the end of the month; the end of a quarter; and the end of a year. Phew! The finish line is in sight.
We want to encourage you to enjoy the remaining opportunities to deliver customer delight (or donor delight, if you’re a non-profit) with these four reminders from Buddy The Elf.
Let’s start with one of my all-time favorite scenes from the movie “Elf.”
Buddy Reminder #1 – Serve your best.
In making his first trip to New York, Buddy read the sign “World’s Best Cup of Coffee,” believed it and cheerfully congratulated a rather stunned group of down-and-out cafe customers. If you’re going to serve, why not serve your best? Be your best? Remember – no empty guarantees. In today’s marketplace, authenticity rules.
Buddy Reminder #2 – Be engaged.
Buddy’s smile was evident in his voice. What is your voice saying to others? Asking a fun question can be a positive memory maker. My dry cleaners has a trivia contest on Thursday, which engages a surprising number of customers, while redirecting some of the heavy weekend traffic. A win-win.
Buddy Reminder #3 – Don’t fake it. Ever.
Buddy was despondent when he realized the man in the red suit at the fictional Gimbels was not Santa. Worse was that he smelled like beef and cheese. Stay true to who you are. Again – authenticity builds credibility and meaningful relationships. (If you need help sorting out your goals and values, perhaps we can help you.)
Buddy Reminder #4 – Stay humble.
If you’re shorthanded and unable to meet expectations, be honest. If you forgot to place an order, tell the truth. Return all calls even if it is late in the day. Consider yourself a servant. Make it a personal goal to be remembered for the joy you bring to others.
I’m pretty sure Buddy would want me to encourage you to take all of the customer delight into the new year. Why not be creative in finding special reasons to decorate and sing extra loud for all to hear! We’d love to see some pictures.
