This weekend, do us a favor.
Enjoy one meal at a local, independent restaurant.
Buy one gift for a friend at a local, independent retail store.
And ask your friends to do the same.
If you own a local, independent restaurant or store, do us a favor.
Charm the pants of your customers this weekend. Don't just go the extra mile; go the extra marathon.
Delight us so much we tell all our friends about you.
This weekend, let's promise to remember that more convenient, faster, or cheaper isn't always (or even usually) better.
To me, that would be celebrating responsibly.

Totally on board with this. I can’t fnd the numers off-hand, but when you look at the effects of a town’s population shifting 1 or 2 percent of their spending locally, it is profound. You get like a 10X benefit.
Of course, restaurants and entertainment are one thing, but buying THINGS is another. No, we don’t want local stores to *compete* witht the internet. Most honest shoppers are happy to pay 15% to 20% more to buy local. What we’re not happy to do is pay 50% to 100% more for the privilege. And if you are 35% more than, say, Amazon, then what are you doing to be value-added on the experience side?
