(Mondays are Lynn Miles Peisker days at The Daily Blur. Lynn’s the Executive Sister and Chief Plate Spinner at the Imagination Advisory Group. Check out her growing archive of posts here.)
On Mondays in December, we’ve planned a series of posts to help us focus on a more helpful holiday season. We have much to be thankful for and that has us thinking about how we can do more this holiday season to express our gratitude and to help others at the same time. We are all about fantastic gift-giving too, so these posts focus on cool places you can get cool stuff that will make many people on your list and around the world happy this holiday season. So buy at least one gift locally, and then consider making charitable gift giving a part of your holiday plan this year.
Here are some great sites that feature really cool clothing. Part of the purchase price is used to make a difference – or the seller donates a like item to someone in need:
Sevenly – A new cause every week and opportunities to engage with social media to support that cause as well as cool merchandise. Sevenly frequently supports charities that focus on autism, which is how we first took notice of them.
World Clothes Line – Everyday, millions of people around the world do not have a clean change of clothes. No options. No choice. World Clothes Line is dedicated to helping them. World Clothes Line will match every item sold with a new item for someone in need. When customers purchase merchandise for themselves, they also provide clothing for others.
BowTie Cause – launched by Dhani Jones to create a platform that challenges people to rock a BowTie for a cause they believe in. What began as a way to support his good friend who was suffering from lymphoma has now become a philanthropic initiative that supports others and their respective causes.
Krochet Kids – Today, over 150 people in Uganda and Peru are working, receiving education, and being mentored toward a brighter future through the work of this company. We love the fact that the products have created a sustainable cycle of employment and empowerment. Great looking hats too (see photo below)!
Toms Shoes and Warby Parker are two companies that have really taken buy one, give one philosophy to the next level. If you need shoes or eye wear, check them out. Love how Warby Parker will send you frames to try at home too!
Our son Thomas is actually the one who got me thinking this way. He participated in a simulation called the Poverty Experience sponsored by our local United Way, designed to give participants a better understanding of life in poverty. Ever since then he has been spending his money differently and with his leadership, so has our family. Below is a photo of Thomas participating in A Day Without Shoes, an awareness campaign from the folks at Toms.
Happy shopping! Happy helping! Happy holidays!
