This week we are giving thanks, taking a few days off and sharing some of our past thoughts on gratitude. The following post appeared originally on October 29, 2013.
And what if we are all unworthy, and it’s just a gift of grace? Then we merely become stewards of the success, not the recipients, and our responsibility is to continue to succeed and to pass that grace along. Gratitude makes all the difference.
Not long ago, I was struggling—really struggling—with the necessary conceit that came with promoting myself. My sister Lynn wrote that quote you just read, and it’s stayed with me ever since.
Yesterday, I was so grateful for being able to celebrate my birthday with my family and the blessings of many friends and even strangers. I received so many kind wishes and wonderful words.
And this morning, I wake up with that gratitude still in my heart, and it’s my goal to keep it there for the rest of my 43rd year and beyond.
And so now I suggest to you that you let me give you this gift of gratitude. It’s free, and it’s so healthy and wealthy and wise.
Let us be grateful for the many gifts in our lives. Start with this day which you’ve been given and will never get again.
Let us be grateful for the kind words of others. Let us be grateful for thoughtful, simple actions. Let us even be grateful for the minor annoyances that we’ll one day miss so dearly.
Let us be grateful then. Thank you.
