During our company retreat this week, Deidre shared a story of a wildly successful mentor who kept something unusual in her car.
Her mentor said she never knew when a moment of need might arise. Elaine said she always wanted to be prepared in case she needed one.
Jumper cables?
Blanket and candle?
Breath mints?
Nope.
Elaine kept thank you cards, envelopes, and stamps in her car at all times.
When someone treated her with kindness, she didn’t want to use “not having a thank you card” as an excuse for making a powerful impression of kindness and gratitude.
Today, when email is easy and everywhere, hand-written, hand-addressed, personally-stamped notes, cards, and letters will stand out for all the right reasons.
Tomorrow, we’re ordering stationery for everyone in our company, plus envelopes and stamps, so we’re always ready to say thank you.
Why not join us?
Seriously, if you aren’t going to do it, why not? I’d really like to hear your reason.
If you are going to do it, well… thank you.
Oh, and PS… if you think thank you cards are just little things, you're right… but the little things matter more than might imagine. There's grace in doing the little things well. Success, too.
