Yesterday, I turned down a chance to see two of my heroes with some of my favorite people.
I was cooked. I hadn’t seen my kids in 10 days or my wife in five, so after my 6 AM flight from Oklahoma City to Kansas City I texted my friends and said I wouldn’t be joining them for Dave Ramsey and Jon Acuff, and I made a beeline for home.
Sometimes, saying “no, thank you” hurts, but it’s necessary.
Sometimes, you need to see your wife’s smile and get hugs from your daughter and hear your son’s latest amazing questions.
Sometimes, you need to pause and remember why you work.
I bring this up because I’m wondering how you’re doing …
Remember a couple weeks ago when I pointed out that last year Americans left an average of 9.2 vacation days unused? That’s not noble. That’s lunacy.
Maybe tomorrow – Friday – would be a great day to call in well. If not tomorrow, how about Monday? How about taking the first Thursday and Friday of the upcoming NCAA tournament off?
Go ahead. Hit reset. You’ll be better for it.
Better for your company. Better for your customers. Better for your family.
I like to think Dave and Jon would agree.
