Want to be awesome? Be like Bill or Spencer – who both emailed us this week.
Bill
Our friend, Bill Montgomery, helps run a way cool Contemporary Christian radio station called The River in Columbus, Ohio.
Once or twice a month, Bill emails cool stories to me and Lynn…

To: Tim Miles, Lynn PeiskerAs my favorite customer focused people on the planet, had to share this nugget from my friend (and former Acad Grad) Blaine Parker. Classic attempt of customer service not serving the customer. Enjoy…probably a 7 minute read. Bill
Bill never sends more than one or two stories/links a month (and for someone who receives 300 emails/day, I appreciate it!), he tells us how long it’ll take to read, and he never asks for anything in return.
That last one’s important… Bill just shares stuff with us he thinks we’d appreciate, and he has excellent taste at curating the content he shares with us… and he never asks for anything in return.
Contrast that with people who are constantly taking or wanting to take… little things, big things, anything… you know the type, don’t you?
Givers rule… and can you guess who, if he ever asked for anything, I’d be first in line to help?
Spencer
As you know, we freely invest of our time to share practical advice every weekday here on The Daily Blur. We expect nothing in return, and yet, there’s one thing above all we do enjoy receiving in return. Spencer Rubin has done this many times with us. He works for KUIK Radio in the Portland market.
Spencer’s two emails from Wednesday are the kinda thing we really enjoy…

To: Tim MilesTIMOTHY!!!! HOW DID YOU KNOW?? How did you know I was working with a client and friend in the restaurant industry who needed an email and your links like this? You magic? I just clicked SEND with some crazy ideas for him when I saw this post from Ryan. I LOVE IT! I told him about the Bridge of Yum… and I hope I did the story justice… in an attempt to fertilize some creative seeds within him.
I hope you are well my friend!

To: Spencer RubinAwesome! Thanks for sharing – now, if you want to provide shareworthy service to him, buy him this book about customer delight as it specifically pertains to the food-service industry. It’s great! And so are you… have a great day, Spencer.

Cc: Lynn PeiskerACTUALLY… just bought 15 copies. One for me… 14 for customers. Thanks Tim!
Thanks are always welcome but not necessary. However, you want to make us think you’re extra awesome? Tell us how you took what advice we gave you and multiplied it by 15!
Everyone wants to feel useful. It’s nice to tell someone when they’ve made a difference. It’s even nicer to tell someone how you’ve made a difference as a direct result of them making a difference.
(And remind me sometime to tell you about the Bridge of Yum.)
You
What can you share today without asking for anything in return? What can you do to be like Bill?
To whom can you reach out and say thank you? And can you go further and show someone how you’re not only grateful but how you paid it forward? What can you do to be like Spencer?
I have no doubt you’ll think of something… because I know you’re awesome.
