It didn’t take long for Will’s new teacher – Ms. Medenis – to be cool. After school on day 2, the following conversation took place:
”Daddy, guess what?!?”
“What, Will?”
“My teacher plays Mario Kart, and she’s even unlocked Bowser Jr.”
So, clearly, she’s strong out of the gate, but can she keep up that pace?
Into week 2, I’m betting heavy on Ms. Medenis’ sustainability when I saw this contract in Will’s take-home folder on Monday:
Our Class Contract
- We will treat others the way we want to be treated.
- We will be respectful of property.
- We will participate in class activities.
- We will raise our hands and wait to be called on.
- We will listen and make eye contact when others are talking.
- We will use inside voices.
- We will follow directions the first time.
- We will stay on task.
- We will work neatly and carefully.
- We will be nice … until it’s time to not be nice.
- We will push in our chairs.
- We will clean up our table spots.
- We will keep our pockets organized.
- We will sit criss-cross on the carpet.
- We will walk peacefully in the hallways.
- We will move quickly & quietly in transition.
- We will accept responsibility for our actions.
- We will be honest.
We will have the best school year ever!
Isn’t that a wonderful list? Isn’t that list totally applicable to you and me, too? Let’s all print out this list and hang it up this week.
With all due respect to Robert Fulghum, I think Ms. Medenis (with just a little help from Patrick Swayze in Roadhouse) killed it.
Well played, Ms. Medenis. Well played.

That is a great list for sure. Sounds like it should be a good year for Will. For the record we have Roberts Rules as a poster in our guest bathroom and everybody loves it and comments on it. FYI – just waiting for your new book to be available on Kindle
