I love the concept. I love the copy. I love everything about it. It made me want to check out the car.
I just wish the Chrysler Eminem Detroit Love Story had been for Ford. Sorry.
I also loved the VW ad. But I was bummed they showed the short version, and I think it’s ridiculous to use that ad for a car you can’t get until June or July. Thing about the VW ad is: it’s not model-specific. It could have been for any VW (or any other make’s) model. Heck, it could have been for any product with a remote control, right? But still. I enjoyed it.
I think my third-favorite was the House promo. As soon as it started I thought, “he’s gotta chuck that cane, right?” I wasn’t disappointed.
Worst? I thought, like so many others, that Groupon was a disaster, but I’m not sure that’s as bad as the several dozen I cannot remember just two days later. Is there such a thing as bad publicity? Hmm.
Any others you loved? Any others you thought were unmitigated disasters? Okay, how about mitigated disasters then?

Adored the Chrysler & VW ads, but my absolute favorite was the Teleflora ad–boyfriend couldn’t figure out what to write on v-day bouquet card, Faith Hill (who happens to be on-hand) suggests to just write what he’s thinking, ends up with, “Your rack is unreal.” Tagline on the ad was something like, “Teleflora say it beautifully, because frankly, you can’t.” Brilliant. Just brilliant.

I really liked the NFL ad that had old tv show clips with the characters wearing team gear. They made it about the fans. And it had Seinfeld and Newman in it.

As it goes in Michigan, and specifically Detroit, so goes the U.S. I see a parallel with the ad copy in the Chrysler ad and your Pedulam – Marketing in 2011 and Beyond presentation (http://timmilesandco.com/pendulum-in-twenty-seconds/)
My second favorite ad was the Carmax ad comparing customer service and methodical thinking to purchasing a car.

Your top two matches my top two. What I can’t understand is how the Doritos “Pug” ad tied with the Budweiser “Dogsitting” ad for the top spot on USA Today’s Ad-Meter. Huh? Am I missing something?

By the way, did you hear who directed the Groupon spot?

The Chrysler Eminem Detroit ad did not “connect” for me. I don’t think of Chrysler when I think of Detroit. It’s like I was missing part of the story or something. But I did like the ad copy. Kind of reminded me of the Chevy Truck “tough” ads with the dramatic pauses…without the sweet Sam Elliott voice of course.
Matt McDougall says
I applaud the thinking behind Chrysler’s ad, but it didn’t connect with me, either. First, because outside of maybe the 300, Chrysler does not equal luxury. The 200 – an improved and rebadged Sebring, but a Sebring nonetheless – is certainly not luxury.
Second, because it feels like a repurposing of Chrysler’s pretty great Jeep Grand Cherokee ad from earlier in the year (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mi0SbrrGaiw). With some Eminem thrown in for kicks.

Tim, I’m with you on the Chrysler and VW ads. Only ones that moved my needle towards the product in any way. Chrysler because I’m from Michigan and know Detroit and VW because it touched me emotionally.
For pure entertainment Bud Light, Doritos & Pepsi Max were a lot of fun, especially the Bud Light Kitchen Remodel, Doritos Licking the Fingers, and Pepsi Max w/woman throwing the can. But I’m not running out to buy any of those three products any time soon.
I also liked the NFL promo w/old TV stars and House promos as the next best.
