When I was starting out in the radio business I clearly remember my new boss bragging about me to one of the radio station clients. “This is our newest announcer who has just joined us, he’s on the air from 6 ’til midnight. He’s really good so make sure you listen to him tonight.” I was astounded that he would talk about me that way. It helped give me a confidence that I didn’t really feel. And I still remember it 30 plus years later.
How are your staff members doing? Do they accomplish every task you set before them? Do you trust them to run your business when you’re not there?
Or do you worry about them incessantly?
Sometimes you telegraph that worry or concern without even knowing it. And that leads to staff who are unsure of themselves and who display a lack of confidence. And that telegraphs to your clients.
To help your staff overcome these situations, you need to raise their belief in themselves. And there is no better way to do that than you bragging about them.
When they hear you telling others how great they are, they start to lose the doubts about themselves and start to gain confidence in their own abilities.
Brag on your staff then sit back and enjoy the results.

I completely agree. All too often we pick the things that people are doing wrong rather than nurturing what they do well. And that person, who is a genius in your team really never gets to genius because they only see were they are doing as well as they’d or you’d like. Grow the talent and the talent will grow into mastery.

Right on Melissa. Couldn’t have said it better.

One other benefit is that the more you play up your staff to your clients, the less they bug you to keep doing stuff.
Great post and reminder!
