Scripture reminds us in the 31st Psalm to ask the Lord to have mercy on our anguish when our eyes are red from weeping and our health is broken from sorrow.
Our eyes are red, Lord. Our health is broken. Help us.
Matthew promises us: Blessed are those that mourn, for they shall be comforted.
I hope that’s true. I believe that’s true.
You feel sick. You feel helpless. You feel overwhelmed. You pray.
I couldn’t stop refreshing my twitter feed, and I found myself shaking reading about the schools, and I got mad at people tweeting about other stuff, and I got madder still at businesses tweeting how sorry they were.
And I realized I had to unplug and pray and hug my children. And I realized it’s silly to get mad and most people are good and doing the best they can.
Words matter. Actions matter, too. Right now, you can text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10. In Canada, you can donate $5 to Red Cross Canada by texting REDCROSS to 30333 (thx, Lisa!).
Be kind today. Kind and patient. In one way or another, we’re in this together.
(One caveat to kindness and patience: Dear subhumans – please stop saying you’ll donate for every like or retweet you get. Just shut up and give. Scammers? Opportunists? You may burn in hell.)
