I’m seeing them everywhere! Are you seeing them, too?
10 ways! 26 tiny changes! 9 terrible habits! 16 tiny habits! 31 things! 12 bad tech habits! 14 ways!
Am I crazy, or is this crazy?
In our relentless race to have more, do more, and share ourselves being more, we apparently checked our common sense at the door.
What if we simply took the Oscar-winning advice of our friend Curly and realized the secret to life was just one thing?
What’s the one thing you need in 2018?
I don’t know. You tell me… or don’t. Keep it to yourself… just because you don’t live tweet something on Snapstabook doesn’t mean it doesn’t matter.
I do have two tips for you:
- Committing to just one thing means de-committing, ignoring, or saying “no” to a hundred or thousand others.
- That’s okay.
Commitment is hard enough with just your one thing.
You’ve heard somewhere, I’m sure, that a habit only takes twenty-one days to form, yes? No.
Like one or two other things on the internet, that’s a myth.
According to an actual scientific study by Phillippa Lally, et al. published in the European Journal of Social Psychology, it takes approximately 66 days—or more than three times internet mythology—to adopt a new habit.
So what? 66 days is nothing. You got this, IF you focus.
So, on this first day of 2018, spend some time praying, thinking, and daydreaming about what you’d like to improve in 2018, and follow these three steps:
- Pick one.
- Say “maybe next year – or maybe next 66 days – to everything else.”
- Breathe. Relax. Feel not just good but great about your choice.
- Follow through.
Oops. That’s four steps… welp, it’s still fewer than the 137 habits an article suggested I adopt to be like the world’s great leaders.
If you follow through, just the one thing—your one thing—will change your life.
Dude.
