I started my advertising career in 1995 for a country radio station in southern Illinois. I made $305.42 every two weeks. I would frequently pull the acoustical tiles off the wall, lay them on the floor and sleep on them for a few hours before getting back to work. You couldn’t pry me out of that place – a converted Mexican restaurant.
Even then, I vowed to spend ten percent of my meager earnings on improving my career.
Books, audio seminars, lessons, conferences.
Yeah, my own money.
Yeah, it hurt. Growing usually does.
Best decision I ever made. I tell it to college and high school classes whenever I get the chance.
I still do it today. I’m literally doing it this week.
The most successful people you and I both know never seem to stop learning, do they?
Tithe to your career.
But sleep in a bed.
Trust me on this one.

Thank you saying this out loud. Mr. Covey says to sharpen the saw. Mr. Williams says follow the beagle down the rabbithole. And Alice took a sip of “drink me.” Curiosity rocks.

Would love to hear how those naps kept the mojo going for you.
Napping is the new coffee break. I think our ancestors were wrong to leave the post lunch nap/siesta – whatever, in the old country.
Nap daily, and do it boldly.
Thanks Tim – you’ve given me more supporting evidence for my next blog. Here’s to a good day.
