Took the boy with me on Sunday to return some golf spikes.
“Daddy, the package says ‘World Beater.’ Can you beat the world with these spikes?”
Not really, buddy.
“So, it’s a lie?”
Well, Will. It’s marketing.
“What’s marketing, Daddy?”
Well, Will. The company that makes those spikes uses certain words – like “World Beater” – to make you pick their spikes over the other spikes at the store.
“But you can’t reeeeeally beat the world with them, right Daddy?”
No, buddy.
“So, it’s a lie.”
Can you argue with that?
If you can’t fool a 7-year-old (granted, a shockingly brilliant one), what makes you think you can fool the rest of us?
Have a world-beating week.
