Yesterday, I wrote about focusing on the work that matters … about taking control of your week before it (and your evil inbox) controls you.
To illustrate this point, here are two images of my calendar:
1. The top image is from yesterday morning around 5:30 AM. I had just returned from two weeks on holiday, and I’d scheduled all my big projects (big rocks) for the week.
2. The bottom image is yesterday evening around 5:30 PM. See how quickly – in just a matter of hours, really – the week completely filled up? Had I not scheduled the week’s most important activities – my activities – I might have easily not had time to get them done.
It’s sinister, really – the calendar. It doesn’t mean you ill, but if you don’t control it, it can quickly get away from you.
So, control it. Schedule your big rocks – your most meaningful work – first.
Give your big projects priority over other people’s big projects.
I believe it’s what some people call ‘paying yourself first.’
Re-read yesterday’s post and learn how simple it can be to put a leash on your calendar.
